Minimum Recommended Hours for ABA Therapy

July 1, 2025

When it comes to ABA therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis), one of the most common questions parents ask is: How many hours does my child really need?

While the ideal number can vary, many experts recommend a minimum of 10 to 20 hours per week for noticeable progress—especially for children with milder needs.

For those with more intensive needs, a comprehensive plan might go up to 30–40 hours of ABA therapy per week. But not every child needs that much. The right amount depends on age, goals, and individual challenges.

Some children thrive with just a few targeted sessions a week, while others benefit from a more structured, full-time approach.

Finding the Right Fit for Your Child

It’s not just about hours—it’s about quality and consistency. Even 10 hours a week, if well-planned, can support communication, social skills, and daily routines. What matters most is a therapy plan tailored to your child’s unique needs, created by a qualified BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst).

Before jumping into a schedule, a proper assessment will help determine what’s best. And yes, it’s okay to start small and adjust as you go!
